Even more impressive is the impeccable service that manages to be incredibly attentive yet not fall into the trap of being condescending.
Palmilla's elegant low rise buildings are set amongst lush green lawns and exotic gardens. The suites and rooms are opulently decorated, every one featuring a pretty day-bed on an ocean view terrace or patio, a telescope for star gazing or whale watching, and complimentary internet access including wi-fi in many areas of the hotel.
Even the Superior Rooms are a treat, and the spacious suites are wonderfully extravagant, although no accommodations are currently equipped with plunge pools (perhaps to retain the original style of the property), all have lovely views of the sea.
Hedonists will also love the fabulous spa, which includes private day villas for couples, set in lush tropical gardens and featuring daybeds and outdoor baths.
Although Palmilla is heavenly for honeymooners, families too can enjoy the superb facilities; there's a special Club House for kids and an activities program for children from four to eleven years old.
Honeymooners and families are segregated to some extent with the designation of an "adults only" pool and quieter accommodation sections that are further from the children's pool, so everyone is happy.
Those people whose ideal vacation is one filled with activities will appreciate the outstanding facilities at Palmilla. The golf is of course world-class, and there are also two floodlit tennis courts with a resident professional. Excellent fishing and diving (including certification) can be arranged and there are some great excursions available, including day tours to the spectacular East Cape in an H2 Hummer Off Road vehicle.
